Advanced Search Warrants is Blue to Gold’s deep dive into the case law that controls every search warrant your officers will ever sign. Built for working officers, detectives, and investigators who write affidavits, take them to magistrates, and execute warrants in the real world, this course teaches the constitutional foundations and the field-tested techniques that turn a defensible warrant into an unbeatable one.

The course is organized into twenty-one lessons that walk through every stage of the warrant process. You will learn the pre-warrant fundamentals, including when and how you can freeze a home, the three methods of impoundment, and the rules for prohibiting entry, maintaining status quo, and entry and exclusion. You will master probable cause, anticipatory warrants, and the descriptions that hold up in court for places, objects, persons, vehicles, and things to be seized. You will work through oath or affirmation, the Four Corners Rule, magistrate neutrality, and the requirements that govern who can issue your warrant.

You will then move to execution. Knock and announce going back to 1604, the Castle Doctrine, announce and wait timing, the rules for no-knock warrants and nighttime service, detaining occupants under Michigan v. Summers, deploying SWAT under a use-of-force analysis, and the post-warrant procedures that protect your case. The final third of the course is about articulating probable cause and defending the warrant in court. You will learn the most powerful word in a search warrant affidavit, the word because, and how to avoid the number one issue that kills warrants, conclusory statements. You will work through standing, the Four Corners Rule, wrong-address liability, and the Miranda issues that arise during SWAT standoffs and barricaded suspects. After completing the course, your officers will write warrants that hold up under appellate scrutiny, execute them safely and lawfully, and defend them with confidence in front of any judge.
