Real World De-Escalation is the practical, field-tested de-escalation course for working officers. The course is built around two five-step frameworks that officers can execute in real time, anchored to the science of emotional contagion, the reality of how subjects’ nervous systems respond to officer behavior, and the operational truth that de-escalation is a tactical skill, not a soft skill.
The course is organized around three major themes. The cooperative-subject framework: Contagious Calmness, Don’t Yell or Scream, Show Respect, Explain and Provide Options, and Limit Demands. The resistant-subject framework: Show Empathy, Slow Things Down, Engage, Reinforce Compliance, and Confirm Non-compliance. And the underlying philosophy: self-regulation as the foundation of every other technique, the active aggression doctrine for switching between frameworks, the integration of de-escalation with tactics, and the closing thoughts that tie the course together.
After completing this course, you will be able to recognize the indicators that determine which framework applies, self-regulate in high-stress moments, use voice volume and pace as deliberate tools, name emotions to defuse resistance, engage with subjects without conceding command, reinforce compliance as it builds, and confirm non-compliance in a way that protects the record. You will leave with the toolkit that reduces use of force, protects officers, and protects subjects.
You must log in and have started this course to submit a review.
